When will she be really independent

Once again this morning my maid came with a big mark on her face. Just like every second day when she comes to work with some injury. She is financially independent earns about 15K a month plus extra handouts. She had married the man of her dreams, had an inter religion love marriage, has four kids all teenagers and she is just my age. I am never able to understand what is it that takes her back home every day? That Human beast called her husband does not deserve to be called man nor do I think she deserves to be called human. Even animals when hit upon bite you back but like a slave or a faithful dog she goes back to the same man every day, and all this for what?

Every few days I see my maids arriving injured and this phenomenon is a constant even when my maids change. One of them who was about to get married I asked her what will you do if your husband hits you? Will you hit him back or retaliate, or will your parents help you. I was shocked by her answer “Maar khaana alag hone se to achha hai” i.e. its better to get a beating and stay with husband rather than leaving him. I fail to understand this concept.

I have often asked my maids why they don’t take help of police or neighbors. Most often police does not help them and their neighbors’ belong to the same family of thought that it’s okay to beat wife. I even advised my maid that she should hit her husband back especially because most often he is drunk when he hits her. To this she replies that hitting back is not an option cos if they do so her husband will kill her.

Makes me think really!!!!

Is this life any better than the unspeakable. These unfortunate ladies they die each day.

68 years of independence and women are still slaves, who says economic liberalization improves quality of life. These ladies are independent financially but emotionally they are chained. They are like the birds of cage who do not leave cage even when the door is left open.

Domestic violence is a huge problem in both rural and urban India and it is highly under reported. The biggest reason for under reporting such cases is the lack of family, social, governmental support. There is no social infrastructure to deal with such problems. In such a scenarios victims of domestic violence find themselves alone.

·        Mythology teaches that women should have extra ordinary high levels of patience and they should be just live their lives hoping that things will be fine one day. Why don’t these principles apply to humanity in general so that men too have same level of expectation?

·        Every government form requires a person to add father’s or husband’s name as if mother’s or wife’s name is irrelevant.

·        Society teaches that good girls are mute, they don’t share their problems with others and above all don’t wash dirty linen in public.

These are the core principles on which these violent beasts thrive. They know nobody will raise voice, as a matter of fact many including the victim will not think that any wrong is being done.
