Returns based approach to live: needs to stop

When was the last time you spent a considerable amount of time doing something that was not a part of routine or not on a deadline to be met? When was last time you simply let your hair down and decided to do something just because you wanted to? I often find people around me complaining that they have absolutely no time to spare for activities that let you just be.

Where has gone the society when people just sat down to chat every evening, when people did things just because they wanted to. Seems like we are all constantly chasing deadline, not just at work but at home too. Our weekends are not fun time with family but trips to the nearest mall where kids can be admitted to the fun zone created and mom and dad can finish shopping for the groceries. Our only stress busters are shopping, watching movie and catching up with the TV shows.

We are such a hobby deprived generation. Unfortunately we are the generation that had not had a chance to develop the hobbies. Our parents thought that letting kids having a hobby was going to destroy their future as it takes their mind away from the books. The result is that we are the generation whose fitness levels are at all-time low, our personal and professional lives are full of stress and we do not have any stress buster outlets. We are also the generation which is least connected to itself. We do not know what we really like we even our likes and dislikes are governed by the peer pressure.

WE DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL ANY MATERIALISTIC GAIN IS GUARANTEED.

What’s done is done and can’t be undone but let’s make sure we do not do the same with our kids. Let us all encourage our kids to pick up a few hobbies that they are interested in and not that we want them to pick. Let the kids cook, sew, knit, play, sing, dance, have a craft, write, take a few pictures and let us encourage them to continue with it even if the hobby seems to be not the one that they can boast of. Let’s encourage our kids to try newer things coz unless they try a zillion things they can never truly discover their true passion.

Every experience in life teaches something. Let the hobbies be the experience that let one learn at their own pace without any thing to prove to anyone, without the fear or failing. Why everything has to be time bound.

Hobbies should be such that when working on it we should completely lose track of time and completely forget about the world if that does not happen we need to change our hobby.
